INNES, Cam Innes

It is with great sadness, the family of Cameron “Cam” Burr Innes, announces his peaceful passing at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the age of 95.

He was born in Bothwell, April 10,1930, to the late William and Gertrude (Burr) Innes and older brother Bill.  While living in Chatham, he met the love of his life Arlene where they shared a happy 67 year marriage.  During that time their family grew with their son Cam, Daughter-in-law Karen and Grandsons William, Matthew, and Matthew’s Wife Rachel.

Cam grew up in Bothwell where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and many pets, including dogs, chickens, rabbits, a goat and his grandfather’s horses. After graduating, he apprenticed as a plumber but found that digging long trenches in frozen earth by hand in the freezing cold wasn’t for him.  He then found jobs in Chatham and Elliot Lake that included Ontario Steel, Milliken Mine and in the office at International Trucks where he retired after 30 years of service.

Cam loved to travel. To him, planning a trip was just as much fun as the trip itself.  He’s been to the East Coast of Canada, all over the United States, parts of Mexico, the Caribbean, England and Portugal, to name a few.

While traveling, he always had his camera.  Photography became a passion. He took pictures of natural wonders like the Grand Canyon and Painted Desert.  He would always go the extra mile to get the photo he wanted.  Climbing to the top of an Aztec Pyramid to get the perfect shot was just routine.  While at home, if family or friends were having a special occasion or a young couple was getting married and watching their budget he would volunteer to take the photos.

Cam’s other great joy was gardening.  While living on Delaware Avenue he had a row of Red Roses along the adjacent fence to King George School.  Many a young schoolgirl would help themselves to a rose and Cam was happy to let them. But it didn’t stop with just an abundance of flowers.  He also enjoyed vegetable gardening.  There was never a shortage of tomatoes and cucumbers for family and friends.

Cam will be forever missed by his Family and Friends.

The Innes family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 31, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, September 1, 2025 at 11:00 am with Brent Elgie officiating. Burial to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery.

Donations made in memory of Cam to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
