JOHNSTON, Isabelle M. Johnston
JOHNSTON, Isabelle M. (nee MURRAY) – May 4, 1928 – May 11, 2023
Isabelle MacMillan Johnston died peacefully, at Sunrise Senior Living in Mississauga on Thursday, May 11, 2023, having just turned 95 a week earlier.
Born an only child in Saskatoon on May 4, 1928, to Dr. F.S. Murray (Clinical Director of Saskatoon Hospital) and his wife, Olivia MacMillan Murray, she was a precocious and much-adored baby.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald Johnston L.L.B., who held an executive post at Trans Canada Pipeline and died suddenly in 1984, Isabelle lived most of her life in Port Credit, where she taught English as a Second Language and did sundry volunteer work.
She was actively involved with both The Canadian Federation of University Women (local and provincial) and the Women’s Art Association of Canada, and was President of both at one time.
Isabelle was a firecracker ball of energy, and no one who met her could forget her. She was full of fun, kind, exceedingly bright, and often said she never met anyone who didn’t interest her. An experienced world traveller and voracious reader of books, she collected many friends from far and wide.
In her own words, Isabelle enjoyed, and she knew it, many of the blessings of the world: wonderful parents, a fine husband and really great friends. For all of these she is grateful and thanks you all.
Her generous love of life was contagious, and her friends will greatly miss her.
A private service will be held for her.
Donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.
