JAMES, Mrs. Elaine James

We are saddened to announce the passing of Elaine (Mavis) James, nee Reynolds, on March 3, 2026 at Grace Villa Long Term Care Home in Hamilton, Ontario.

Elaine was born on February 19, 1928 in Clarendon, Spalding, Jamaica. She was the eldest child of Louise and Bernard Reynolds, sister to David, Ludlow (deceased), Joan Grey (deceased) and Pam Summers. She was predeceased by her husband Donald James (2019) and will be remembered by her children Phillip (Emily), Nigel (Nancy), Hope (Stan) and Dale (James). She was the proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and Auntie to many nieces and nephews.

Elaine immigrated to Canada in 1966 with Donald, their children and best friend Joan Kerr. In 1972 she graduated as a Registered Nurses Assistant and worked in numerous hospitals and care homes in Toronto. She was exceptional at making and decorating wedding cakes as many brides can attest to and her Christmas cakes were legendary. She never lost her love for authentic Jamaican food and her stories about growing up in her native country. She was also known for her beautiful sewing talents.
