VERNON, James Harcourt Vernon II
VERNON II, James Harcourt –
March 31, 1936 – June 13, 2023
With great sadness we said goodbye to Jim, who died peacefully, at Toronto General Hospital.
Jim is survived, and will be deeply missed, by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nancy Lee Hankins Vernon, and son, Jim “Jimmy” Vernon (Karen), daughter-in-law Anja, and grandchildren, Niesa (Loyn), Yon, Russell and Georgia.
It is some comfort that Jim has been reunited with his son John, who passed in 2022.
Jim lived most of his early life in Winnipeg and in the United States.
In business and in life, Jim was honest, thoughtful and authentic. In addition to family and business, he had a passion for flying. He co-founded Canadian Warplane Heritage and flew regularly in airshows as part of the Goldilocks Team in his Harvard #2. He was also an enthusiastic sailor and scuba diver and enjoyed many adventures around the world with his family.
In his later years, Jim loved spending his time with family and friends at Georgian Bay and in Hawaii.
Jim always put family first, as his profound love for Nancy, his two boys and his grandchildren kept him busy in life. Enjoy your peace Jim, as you have certainly earned it.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, with speeches at 3:00 p.m.
