DOUGLAS, Janet – Our mom passed away in Peterborough on March 1, 2024, in her 89th year, with her children and grandchildren at her side.
She and her late sister, Jessie Erson, were born in Toronto to the late Thomas and Grace Barnes.
A graduate of University of Toronto, Victoria College, she also completed a degree in Social Work.
She was married to the late Jack Douglas; mother to Craig (Lori) and Cameron (Yvonne); and grandmother to Corey, Tyler (Katy), Kaia and Jake.
Mom’s career spanned 20 years, managing constituency offices for both provincial and federal members where her outgoing personality served her very well working with her community. Mom loved exploring the world’s natural places and cultures from pole to pole.
Canoeing on Canada’s greatest northern rivers and trips through Africa were a highlight.
More locally, she was a Bruce Trail end-to-end regular with the Wednesday Hikers group.
Mom was generous with charity, and particularly liked to support the Bruce Trail Conservancy and Doctors Without Border (MSF).
A celebration of life will be held on mom’s birthday at her beloved family cottage in Haliburton.
