JOHNSTON, Jewel Edith Johnston

Born on May 27, 1954 to Shirley Hasiuk and adored by William Hasiuk, both predecessed. During her childhood, Jewel was so close with her uncles Bill, predecessed, Theighn, predecessed, and Gary, and her aunt Linda that she loved them as siblings and carried that love throughout her entire life.

Jewel was recently widowed by her beloved husband of 52+ years, David. Loving mother of Christopher (Cherri), Darrin, and Jennifer. Special grandma of Harleigh and Wyatt. Sister of Wayne (Karen) Hicks. Sister-in-law of Vivian (Jim) Rider, both predecessed, Francis (Donna) Johnston, Rae (Raymond, predecessed) Osborne, Alvin, predecessed, (Sharon) Johnston, and Shirley (Duane) Dickinson.

Jewel loved her TV and movies. From her early years, growing up with a black and white TV, where her and her brother were the remote controls for their grandfather, through to recent times where anything can be streamed. She loved movies because she was able to engross herself in them and all of her problems and worries disappeared, if only for a couple of hours.

Jewel was an avid crafter throughout her life. She was a knitter in her earlier years, until the arthritis in her hands made it too difficult to continue. She loved to watch crafting videos and use them as inspiration to make beautiful creations.

Jewel’s health saga had many twists and turns over the years. She was always given wonderful care by her nurses at VHA and her PSWs with CCD. Special thank you to the team at Compassionate Care Private PSW Services and the team in Critical Care at LHB.

On Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Newcastle Funeral Home, there will be a visitation from 11-11:30am, service will take place at 11:30am with refreshments to follow. All are welcome.
