JONES, Mary Therese Jones
April 13, 1934 - February 8, 2026
Passed away on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at the age of 91, in the Parry Sound Hospitalβs Palliative Care. Surrounded by her loving family, she said good-bye and said that βshe had to go to heaven now to be with Godβ. Mom died peacefully in her sleep.
Mary was born in Peterborough, Ontario on April 13th, 1934, to John (Jack) and Lillian Rutherford and was one of five children; survived by sisters Jean (predeceased Pat Murphy) and Betty (predeceased Jim MacPherson). Mary was also predeceased by her brothers John (Maureen) and Dick (Marcie).
Mary graduated from St. Michaelβs Nursing Program in1955 and in 1958 married her high school sweetheart, Leverne Jones. Together they raised a family of five children: eldest son Ian (LeeAnne), Brian (Sandy), daughter Karen (Greg Morrow), Eric (Denise), and youngest son Peter (Nicole). Mary was the loving, soft-spoken, fun βNONIβ to eleven (11) grandchildren: Christine, Alexandria, Jeremy, Katie, Jason, Kristen, Laura, Emily, Andrew, Spencer, Madison and seven (7) great grandchildren; Adeline, Fay, Abigail, Ava, Wren, Percy and Alfie.
Mary’s unconditional love as both a mother and grandmother has had a wonderful and positive impact on her immediate and extended families. Her caring and generous nature enhanced the lives of all those she touched. Everyone that knew Mary, also knew that she was a beautiful person with an unwavering commitment to Godβs word.
Mary was recently honoured with the Catholic Womenβs League 65th Year of Service Pin. Mary and Leverne actively participated and supported the church communities to which they belonged. For many years, Mary provided eucharist to shut-in members of her Church all while involving in self-development and prayer groups.
As a professional registered nurse, she served others for many years on the maternity floor of Sudburyβs General Hospital.
Mary was part of Peterboroughβs Canadian Championship synchronized swimming team in the early 1950s and always inspired others to stay active. She enjoyed bridge, swimming, curling, cross-country skiing, camping, and especially reading a good book!
Very special to Mom were quiet times with Leverne at the family βcampβ on Lake Kawigamog, and the bustle of family and friend get togethers!
Thank you to the Parry Sound Hospital palliative care team for their excellent and compassionate work.
