SIMPSON, Katherine Simpson
SIMPSON, Katherine (nee JENNER) –
March 23, 1940 – November 18, 2023
Passed away from Covid, after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia, at Streetsville Community Care in Streetsville, at the age of 83.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 61 years, John; her daughters, Kristin (Nick) and Vicki (Ivan); and her grandchildren, Keziah, Rhys, Matias and Emma.
She’ll be lovingly remembered by her sister, Peggy Jenner.
Kathy graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Arts in 1962. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and heavily involved in student government and several committees.
She married John in 1962. Kathy was highly skilled at bringing people and groups together to integrate information and research projects.
She began a successful career at Gallup & Robinson in New Jersey, and then moved on to MERI in California, earning accolades wherever she went.
She and John immigrated to Canada in 1970, and Kathy earned a Masters in Library Science at the University of Toronto. The couple raised their two daughters in Streetsville, where Kathy became a dedicated volunteer in the women’s group at Streetsville United Church and in a number of community organizations and charities.
Kathy was a caring and attentive woman. She exuded calm, and her quiet, kind, accepting nature made the Simpson home a favourite hang out among her daughters’ friends. Despite her apparent gentle demeanor, she was tenacious and persistent, and her intelligence shone through in all she did.
She was also a steadfast support of John throughout his career. She’ll be remembered as a person who was always smiling. A private burial will take place in Port Sydney, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kathy to The Dr. Sandra Black Centre for Brain Resilience and Recovery or the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information.
