KIMPSON, Joan Marie Kimpson
July 22, 1934 - January 28, 2026
Born in Havelock, New Brunswick, Joan was the second of four children of Louise and Austin. A proud East-Coaster at heart, she carried warmth, kindness, and a friendly spirit with her wherever she went. Joan was known for her ready smile and generous compliments, always finding something positive to say and brightening the days of those around her.
For more than sixty years, Joan was a familiar and beloved presence in the Preston community. Known for her short hair, colourful outfits, and distinctive gait, she could often be found attending classes at the Allan Reuter Centre, visiting the Preston Library, or browsing the King Street shops in search of her next special treasure. She cherished her Hamilton Street community and enjoyed daily chats with neighbours, who will fondly remember her quick wit and quirky ways. She shared a particularly special bond with the Clare family.
Joan began each morning by gathering multiple daily newspapers from the front porch and brewing what her family affectionately called βrocket fuelβ coffee β strong enough to power a full day of pleasant conversation and thoughtful observations. She was an eternal optimist who delighted in offering gracious comments, including her trademark positive reviews on every meal placed before her.
An avid reader, Joan especially enjoyed mystery novels and biographies of Canadians. She also loved art and fashion and looked forward to trips to Toronto to explore galleries and browse her favourite shops.
Even after a diagnosis of dementia, Joan maintained her humour and sharp wit, continuing to share laughter and light with others.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Dennis in 2014 and her stepdaughter Jill in 2025. She will be deeply missed by her children Joe (Meg) and Corey (Todd); stepdaughters Sally (Greg) and Molly; her grandchildren Joss, Meredith, Parker, Finley, Milo, and Quincy; and many, many friends.
A gathering to celebrate Joanβs life will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
