KING, Evelyn Joan King

Evelyn passed peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on December 1, 2025. She was welcomed into her heavenly home in her 90th year. Cherished and adored wife of the late William G. (Bill) King, proud stepmother of Jeffrey King and his late wife Dianne, Vancouver, B.C. and the late Linden King, Berkley, California; loving step-grandmother of Alyssa King (Ryan) and Jamie King and proud great step-grandmother of Meta King, Vancouver, B.C. Loving sister of Sandra Craw (Donald), Brantford, ON, loved sister-in-law of Donald (Sheila) Chorniak, Brantford, ON and Edward Chorniak and his late wife Elizabeth, Newmarket, ON. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Aquila and Edith Sharrow, and brothers and sisters-in-law Ivan (Ileen) Sharrow, William (Marion) Sharrow and Warren (Dorothy) Sharrow. She is also predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Ruth Patterson (Robert), Mildred Parkinson (Kenneth) and Doris Gore (Donald).

Evelyn was Teacher, Principal and Resource Service Program Director at W. Ross Macdonald School for 35 years. She was Principal of The Teachers of the Blind Additional Qualifications Courses at Western University, London, ON. She designed and implemented education programs for students with visual impairment. Evelyn lectured throughout Canada, United States and England, and authored articles and textbook chapters related to the education of the visually challenged.

Evelyn was past President, Council for Exceptional Children, Chapter 460 and Life Member of the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind. She was a member of the C.N.I.B. Advisory Board, Mohawk College Advisory Board, Board of Directors of People Helping People and a Charter Member of Women’s Probus Club of Brantford. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served on many Boards and Committees.

Evelyn was the recipient of the Bell Award for Outstanding Service in the Field of Education presented by the Brant County Home and School Association. She was truly loved and respected by her students and staff and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Her life enriched the lives of others.

A special thank you to the Directors and Staff of Charlotte Villa for their compassion and exceptional care over the past five years. Family and friends will be received at the McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road N, Brantford on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon in the chapel. At the conclusion of the service, everyone is invited to join the family in the Hospitality Suite for refreshments. Interment to follow at Oakhill Cemetery, Brantford. Donations in memory of Evelyn made to the Brantford General Hospital, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
