KLASSEN, Hope Klassen
February 7, 1945 - May 19, 2025
Holding the tension of earthly loss and the joy of hope in eternal life, we share the peaceful passing of (Helen) Hope Klassen (nee Gault), on May 19, 2025.
Born in Toronto and raised in Leaside, Ontario, the only child of Lillias and James Gault, Hope was a servant to the end.
Hope’s greatest joy was found in her family. She was a proud mother to Carolynne and Hilary, affectionately known as “The Girls”, mother-in-law to Scott and Matt. Grandma to Luke, Seth, Paige, Claire and Lia, she was ever present in their lives at the diamond, the pitch, the rink and the pool, musical performances and praying for them daily. Her grandchildren will miss her deeply but have been left an incredible legacy of faith, faithfulness, service and loyalty.
God’s mercy was evident throughout Hope’s life and she lived to serve Him. She dedicated 31 years as an administrative assistant with the TDSB and spent many summers volunteering at Elim Lodge when her daughters were young. Hope was an active member of her local church throughout her life, from Calvary Church in Toronto to Sanctus Church in Ajax. She worked hard to build a rich and supportive community around her and “the girls” and was rewarded with many deep and enduring friendships. She was, for so many, a very special and committed friend. Her life was richer for the relationships she so carefully built.
In her retirement, she focused on serving others, volunteering for 10 years at the Marketplace at Fairview Lodge in Whitby, where she enjoyed chatting with residents and their families. She also found immense joy on Wednesday afternoons at the Pregnancy Help Centre, building relationships and supporting families. At Sanctus Church, Hope took on various volunteer roles, most recently ushering on Sunday mornings, and diligently cleaning the church kitchen and coffee pots on Tuesdays. She was a faithful encourager and will be deeply missed by these communities.
Hope loved the Lord and had full confidence in Him.
As we mourn her earthly loss we raise our hands triumphant, knowing the grave is not the end.
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
