Verna Schmidt passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton. Verna was born 91 years ago on February 11, 1934, in Perth County, Ontario, a daughter of the late Gideon and Catherine (Schwartz) Kuepfer.

Beloved wife of Jonas Schmidt, whom she married on September 18, 1952, and who predeceased her on June 5, 2020. Cherished and loving mother and grandmother of Rosanna Rolfe and husband John (predeceased) and their children Jesse (Jill) and Katrina (Paul); Gladys Campbell and husband Jim (predeceased) and their children Kiley, and Shaun (Erin); Gloria Roulston and husband Rod; Albert Schmidt and wife Gayle and their children Colin (Stephanie), Carrie (Steve), and Heidi (Rob); Brenda Schmidt (predeceased) and partner Bruce Schmidt and her children Dylan and Sam.

Devoted great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Verna will be remembered by her brother Ken and wife Esther Kuepfer, by her sister-in-law Barb Schmidt, and by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Clara Carter and husband William, by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law LeRoy Carter and wife Clara, Miriam and husband Ezra Kuepfer, and Jacob Schmidt.

Verna was a member of the Former Riverdale Mennonite Church, Millbank, until the closing of the congregation and later attended the Milverton Christian Fellowship. Verna was a true homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning, quilting, sewing, and knitting. She also enjoyed listening to music and playing her harmonica and the piano.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer Street, Milverton, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 pm. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Milverton Christian Fellowship, with interment to follow in the Former Riverdale Mennonite Church Cemetery, Millbank.

As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations would be accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Knollcrest Lodge.
