He is a beloved husband, a devoted father, and a cherished grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the age of 90.Born on February 24, 1935, in Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, John lived a life grounded in love, family, and dedication. He was a loving husband to Betty, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

As a father, John was a constant source of guidance, strength, and encouragement. As a grandfather, he found great joy in his grandchildren, delighting in their milestones and spending treasured time with them. His warmth, wisdom, and humour left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

John worked as an Apprenticeship Councillor where he dedicated many years to mentoring and guiding young men and women entering the skilled trades. Through his patience, knowledge, and commitment, he helped put hundreds of apprentices on the path to successful and meaningful careers. He believed strongly in the value of hard work, education, and opportunity.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his children, Linda Rigg (Brian) and Brenda Labrecque (Paul Delmonte), his grandchildren Amanda Rigg (David McDonald) and Matthew Rigg. He is also survived by his nephews Walt, Raymond, Chris, and their children whom he loved dearly as well as many cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Albert Labrecque and Virginia (nee Giroux) and stepfather Dominic Pacione, his brother Ray Labrecque (late Jackie) and his sister Suzanne Battochio (late Santo).

The family would also like to thank the paramedics, Dr. Kyle Harper and the staff at Timmins and District Emergency department, the 2nd floor medical staff, Dr. Sebastian Diebel and the hospice staff for the excellent care.

Respecting John’s wishes, cremation will take place. The family will hold a visitation for John on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from noon to 2 pm at Lessard Funeral Home located at 21 Elm St S, Timmins, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm. A reception will follow immediately after in the Lessard Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations can be made to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
