It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ivan Norman Lafond on May 22nd, 2025. Ivan was born September 8, 1963, to Gerard and Janice Lafond (née Barker) at North York General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.

In 1969, Ivan moved with his mother and brothers to Devlin, Ontario, eventually settling in Fort Frances. He graduated from Fort Frances High School before moving to Thunder Bay to attend Lakehead University, where he earned an Honorary Degree in Art. He remained in Thunder Bay, living and working there until his passing.

Ivan’s love for art was evident in his many sketches and drawings, with his final piece being a Christmas gift for his mother. A kind and selfless soul, Ivan often gave to others even when it meant going without himself.

Predeceased by his father Gerard and grandparents Percy and Eileen Barker, Ivan is survived by his loving mother Janice, brothers Rick and Paul (Stacy), stepmother Claudette, sisters Rachel (Luc) and Billie Jo, special friend Tina, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

A graveyard ceremony will be held at Box Alder Cemetery on Thursday, June 26, at 11:00 a.m.
