LAMOND, Bill Lamond

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of William “Bill” Nelson Lamond, who passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance at the age of 92 on September 3, 2025.  Born in London Ontario on April 4, 1933, he was the son of the late William and Lillian Lamond. Predeceased by his brothers Arnott and Kenneth. Bill was married to his best friend and life partner, Shirley Anne Lamond (nee Smith) for 73 years until her passing in April 2025.

Together they created a beautiful family with their three children including his eldest son Kenneth Lamond (Barb), who passed away in May 2025, Judith Lamond Dawson (Arnie) and Douglas Lamond (Nancy).

Treasured grandfather of Jason Heinhuis (Anne), Michelle Babkirk (Brandon), Stephanie Kints (Darren), David Lamond, Matthew Lamond (Stacey), Laura Boon (Adam) and Blake Lamond (Alexandra).

Adored by his great grandchildren Dylan, Adam, Mercedes, Lyndsay, Jackson, Hayden, Tyler, Hannah, Abbie, Foster, Leah, Audrey, Luke, Genevieve and Anadya.

After marrying Shirley, Bill joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1950 at the age of 18 years old.  His service took him to many bases including Centrilia Ontario, Portage La Prairie Manitoba, Cold Lake Alberta, Sainte Aulde France and finally Base Borden Ontario.  He held the position of aeroengine technician over a 20 year career until he retired from the air force in 1970.

Bill and Shirley finally settled in Chatham in 1970. Bill’s ‘second’ career took him to the classroom at Tecumseh School where he taught shop class and math, later transitioning to CKSS for a short time before retiring from teaching in 1989.

At that time, Bill joined his wife as she traveled the province in her role as the Worthy Grand Matron of Ontario. Bill was an active member of the Masons for 60 years.  He served as Worshipable Master of Parthenon Lodge #267 of Ontario from 1980-1981 and Thrice Pussant Grand Master of the Scottish Rite from 1990-1991.  Together, they were active members of the Holy Trinity/St. Paul’s Anglican Church for many years.

Bill and Shirley spent several years visiting Florida during the winter months.  It wasn’t long before they purchased their own piece of paradise in Bradenton Florida, where they continued to stay for 28 winters. They had many memorable visits with their children, grandchildren and friends in their Florida home. Their summer months were filled hosting countless swimming parties and BBQ’s in their backyard. When Bill wasn’t teaching one of his many grandchildren how to swim in his pool, he could be found on any number of golf courses in the area enjoying one of his favourite pastimes. Bill took great pride in the beautiful relationships he developed over the years and he and Shirley cherished their life together with their many friends and family.

The family would like to say a very special thank you to all the nurses at CKHA. Special thanks to Willie Kirenko.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 459 St. Clair St, Chatham on Thursday September 4, 2025 from 11:00am – 1:00pm with a Masonic Service to start at 1:00pm with a Funeral Service in memory of Bill to follow at 1:30pm.
