LEUNG, Cynthia Sue Ching Leung

Passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, at Victoria General Hospital.  Born April 30, 1934, in Victoria BC, Cynthia was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Peter in May 2017.  She is survived by her children Cary, Steven (Patricia), and Darlene (Randy).  Her loving grandchildren, Brandon, Leanne, Jordan (Olivia), Karsen (Sarah), Jarryd (Rachel), Nathan (Amy) and Tamiya (Geoff) and recent great grandchild, Jorgie. As well, predeceased by her father Jong Fook (Johnnie) Der, Mother Rose (nee Chue), sisters Jennie, Helen, Annie, Sue, Barbara, Doreen, and brothers Walter, Thomas, and Reginald.  She leaves behind sisters Gwen and Dayanna (Jase), sister-in-law Reta Der and many nieces and nephews and their families from the Der family.

Cynthia grew up in Victoria’s Chinatown and attended school at North Ward Elementary and Victoria High School.  She was a hard worker helping the family’s dry-cleaning business get off the ground in the early years.  Then she moved on to her father’s business, Capital Freightways and worked there for many years.  She enjoyed dancing and would never turn down a night out with Dad and friends to dance the night away.  She also enjoyed travelling and visiting many countries with Dad and friends.  Their favourite destination was Hawaii, traveling there yearly and sitting on the beaches of Waikiki and Fort DeRussy drinking gin and tonics and mai tais. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and was very involved in their upbringing.  She loved watching them play sports and cheered them on mightily. She loved her extended family, and her best buddies were her sisters.  The Der family recently had a family reunion, and she was absolutely thrilled to see family members that she had not seen in many years.

There will be no service at Mom’s request.

We wish to thank Angie for the care that she provided for Mom the past few years.  Also, to Uncle Doug and Auntie Joanne for being social companions for Mom in recent years.  Driving her to the casino to give her the thrill of winning at the slots.

To the doctors and nurses on 6 South at Victoria General Hospital for providing the best compassionate care for Mom in her final days and the kindness extended to family members when visiting.
