LINDSEY , Elizabeth Jean Lindsey (née Burns)
July 24, 1923 - August 8, 2025
After 102 remarkable years filled with laughter and love, Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Lindsey has taken a well-earned rest. Born in St. Catharines, Betty was known for her fiery red hair, boundless energy, and her gift for making every space brighter.
Betty married Roy Lindsey on October 31, 1942, and together they raised four daughters: Betty (Vince) Goldsworthy, Barbara Hughes, Bonnie Mitchell, and Janice (Jim) Levasseur. She was the proud matriarch of a large and lively family, including 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Roy, all of her siblings, several in-laws, and her grandson Douglas Hughes.
Betty worked in many roles over her life, from supporting the WWII war effort at General Motors to running the Avondale store with Roy. A social butterfly, she loved organizing dances and trips, playing euchre, and connecting with friends at Ina Grafton and Dunlop Drive Seniors Centre.
She was deeply rooted in her faith, as a longtime member of Westminster, Grantham (now Trillium), and Silver Spire United Churches. Always tech-savvy and full of life, she recently celebrated her 102nd birthday—twice.
Visitation will be held at Garden City Funeral Home (39 Court Street, St. Catharines) on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service celebrating her life at 1:00 p.m.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Trillium United Church.
