LOGUE, John Anthony The Duke Logue

On the 28th of October 2025, John Anthony Logue (the “Duke”) left us for a better place. He leaves behind an extensive family, in particular his wife of 62 years, Loretta, their children and spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Duke is also survived by two brothers and three sisters and many nieces and nephews flung far and wide from Australia to the USA, and the UK to Canada.

Duke was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 8th, 1942 to Annie and John Logue. As a teenager with his parents and siblings, Duke immigrated by ship to Australia. It was there that he met his lifelong love, Loretta “Rhett”. In their early twenties, Duke and Rhett married and shortly thereafter bore five beautiful children, Donna Marie (Chris), Anthony John, Sonia Therese (David), Michael Joseph (Alison) and Christopher James (Sarah). Ever the explorers, Duke and Rhett with their 5 children in tow, boarded an Air India flight in 1977 to immigrate to Canada via England and Scotland. Duke and Rhett then settled in Canada, first in Oakville and eventually in Burlington. As a young man, Duke worked as a bricklayer. After working in Houston for a few years, Duke had a mid-life change of career and established a successful recruiting business in the shipbuilding industry. The Burlington-based company in his namesake, Duke-Smart Staffing, thrives today and is now led by Duke and Loretta’s daughter, Sonia.

Duke and Rhett shared a love of travel and exploration and spent many years globetrotting either on their own or with their children and grandchildren. They were always off on a new adventure. Duke had a wonderful voice and passed along his love of music to his children and grandchildren. He shared his passion for golf and football (Notre Dame and the Bills) with his family and spent many years in the men’s league at Millcroft Golf Club. Duke will long be remembered for his remarkable love and affection for his family, including 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, all of whom benefited from his generosity, his wry sense of humour and in-depth knowledge of history.

At the personal request of John, his cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Sunday November 2nd, 2025 from 3 pm. – 6 pm., where the Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday November 3rd, 2025 at 1 pm.
