LYLE, Charles Hamilton Lyle
October 10, 1942 - February 7, 2026
Passed away peacefully following a courageous journey with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsons on February 7, 2026, at Fairview Mennonite Longterm Care Home in Cambridge Ontario. Charles was born on October 10, 1942, in Guelph Ontario to parents Marjorie and Robert Lyle (predeceased).
Charlie enjoyed an accomplished career in the retail grocery industry. Starting as a stock boy for Dominion Stores Limited and retiring as Vice President of Operations at Sobeys. His work took him across the globe, his favorite places being Portugal, Italy, and Turkey. His outgoing personality and gift of gab made it easy for him to make lasting business relationships, many of which turned into lifelong friendships.
Charlie was an avid golfer who had the privilege of playing some of the finest courses in Ontario. He played on a softball team until the age of 61, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to staying active and connected through sport.
He built a multitude of memories as an enthusiastic fan of all sports. His favorite being NFL football. He proudly attended nine Super Bowl games. If you ever talked to him about his trips he shared many unforgettable moments. His most memorable athlete interaction is when he had the opportunity to have a conversation with Wayne Gretzky, a story he shared with great pride. Whether watching from the stands, the couch, or the fairway, sports were at the heart of who he was.
Above all, Charlie cherished his family. He is survived by his loving devoted wife, Lorraine. On February 6, 2026, they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Charlie is also survived by his son, Robert; his daughter-in-law, Michelle; and his two beloved grandchildren, Michael and Christina. At home, the arena, soccer pitch or at dance competitions, his family was always his greatest pride and joy. He was loved dearly by his sister-in-law, Doreen, his brother-in-law, Paul (predeceased), his niece Karen and his nephews, Scott and David. Charlie always treasured the time spent with his extended family, the Blanchetteβs, whom he spent almost as much time with as his own family. Those who knew him well, will fondly remember his infectious smile and the naps he would take at all family functions.
Charlie will be remembered for his dedication to family, his work ethics, the love of sport, his travels and his stories. Please join us for a Celebration of Life to be held on March 1, 2026, from 1:00pmβ4:00pm at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home in Burlington. In true Charlie fashion, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite sports attire to honor his passion and spirit.
We would like to say thank you to the entire team of caregivers in the Blair Community at Fairview Mennonite Longterm Care Home. The level of care they provided for Charlie was greatly appreciated over the many years he was a resident. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society in Charlieβs memory.
