MACDONALD , Audrey Joan MacDonald (née McAllister)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Audrey Joan MacDonald — the beloved matriarch of the MacDonald clan — on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in her 92nd year.

Born in Falconbridge, Ontario, as the eldest child of the late Dorothy (Castell) and Garnet McAllister, affectionately nicknamed “Snookie” at birth, she was a loving sister to Alec (late Jovette Merizzi), Mickaila (late George Borgatti), Ron (Gail Kitts), and the late Dorothy (late Garry Turcotte).

Audrey was the devoted wife of the late Donald MacDonald, whom she married on May 8, 1954, at St. Columban’s Parish in Cornwall. Together they raised six children: Joanne (late Allan MacDonald), Don (Ann Marie Foley), Peter (Heather Kyer), Audrey Lorraine (Peter McIntyre), Alastair (Mario Gagnon), and Jennifer (Richard Spence).

Audrey’s love for her grandchildren (15) was boundless — Jared, Jenna, Amanda, Chelsea, Emily, Sarah, Kendra, Breanna, Matt, Katie, Allison, Alyssa, Ethan — and she also enjoyed getting to know her step-grandchildren Manuel and Chantal. Her life was filled with family adventures from skiing and camping to traveling across Canada, the U.S., Europe, and even Disney World at 67!

She cherished time with her 18 great-grandchildren — Rory Dawn, Lorne, Ben, Lyla, James, Ashton, Miller, Evie, Arlo, Noah, MacKenna, Fergus, Theo, Colbie, Noa, Maisie — and step-great-grandchildren Lina and Halle. Her spunky legacy lives on through each of them.

Audrey made lasting friendships with neighbours like the St. Marseille, O’Reilly, and Scranton families. She was particularly close with the Scrantons, becoming an honorary grandparent to Ryan and Natasha.

She spent memorable childhood summers at Lac Guidon, Quebec, and had a bold adventurous spirit — swimming the St. Lawrence River and skating to school. Audrey enjoyed high school at Iona Academy, tennis with nuns, and dances like the Lindy Hop!

A devout Catholic, she served her community through the Catholic Women’s League, Cornwall Figure Skating Club, Meals on Wheels, and more. Weekends were filled with skiing, theater, cycling, and cherished visits with family.

In her later years at McConnell Manor and St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Center, Audrey enjoyed puzzles, activities, and peaceful drives along the St. Lawrence.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, from 7–9 pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, ON (613-938-3888). Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 17th at 10 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, followed by interment at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery.

In honour of Audrey’s memory, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Messages of condolences may be made at Wilson Funeral Home.
