MACEACHERN, Ronald Joseph MacEachern
February 10, 1936 - July 14, 2025
After a brief illness at Hamilton General Hospital on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Ronald passed away peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by his family.
Born in Inverness, Cape Breton, and raised in Judique in a Gaelic-speaking household, Ron held Cape Breton close to his heart and returned there annually. He was the beloved husband of Danita (MacIntyre), loving father of Scott, Ronita, Dana (Steve), and Randy (Jen), and devoted Poppa of Emilie, Kaitlyn, and Ryan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family in Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Michigan.
Ron was predeceased by his parents John Hughie and Mary Ann (Gillis), and siblings Hughie John, Malcolm, Christine, and Marguerite. Cherished brother-in-law of Linden MacIntyre (Carol Off) and Rosalind Rankin (the late Donald).
Leaving home early, Ron worked in the hard rock mines of Northern Ontario and Newfoundland before settling in Hamilton in the early 1960s. A proud 34-year employee of Westinghouse Canada, he retired in 1998. During his career, Ron was a dedicated union member of the UE and CAW, holding several positions and advocating for workers’ rights.
He was a familiar face at Tim Hortons in Fiesta Mall and a devoted Tiger-Cats and Blue Jays fan. Ron enjoyed walking and connecting with everyone he met—he truly never met a stranger.
Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday from 4–8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 304 Highway 8, Stoney Creek on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
