Mr. Keith (Bud) MacMillan Sr., age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Keith was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, and grew up in Westfort on East Amelia Street with his parents Donald and Jean MacMillan and his brothers Gerry and Kenny.
He began his career at Ogilvie Flour Plant at age 17 before joining MacMillan Bloedel in Thunder Bay as a knife sharpener, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Iron Range. In 1960, he met the love of his life, Ellen Joan Douglas, and they married on December 10, 1960. Together they raised their family, enduring the tragic loss of their son Mark in 1968. Keith cared devotedly for Ellen through her health challenges until her passing in 2001.
Active in the community, Keith was involved with the Elks Lodge, Parking Authority Board, Safety Committee, and even ran for the Lakehead School Board. He loved to travel, visiting destinations across Canada, the U.S., and beyond. Proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Keith’s eyes lit up when he spoke of them.
He is lovingly remembered by his children Kelly Salatino (Michael), Keith MacMillan Jr. (Dorothy), Susan McDonald (James), and Lisa Todd (Michael), his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his partner Mary Ferris and her family, and numerous extended family members. He was predeceased by his wife Ellen, son Mark, parents, siblings, and other loved ones.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Da Vinci Centre, Thunder Bay, at 11:00 a.m., with speeches beginning at 11:30 a.m. A hot spaghetti lunch will follow. Private interment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Donations in Keith’s memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, St. Joseph’s Foundation, the Humane Society, or a charity of choice.
