MAGUIRE, John Joseph Francis Maguire

Died peacefully at home surrounded by love on February 16, 2026. Beloved husband of 36 years to Martha. Adoring father to Tyrone (Danielle), Dylan (Alysha) and Rhys. Proud grandfather to Jane, Rhodes, & Harrison and Jackson, Eden, & Addison. Cherished son of Joseph & Janet (predeceased). Loyal brother to Martin (Kerry), Anne-Marie, and Terry (Pina). While he could often be heard coming before you saw him, his big smile and laugh were quick to greet you. John lived out his values for his faith, family and friends enthusiastically. He was most at home while teaching at John Fraser, pacing at hockey rinks across Ontario and in Collingwood upon retirement. He journeyed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Martha was always close by his side. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to listen to him tell a story.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home (2241 New Street, Burlington). The family warmly invites all who had the privilege of knowing John to drop by and share their favourite memories. A memorial funeral service for the family will be held on Friday, February 20; please connect with the family directly for further details.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The John J. Maguire Memorial Bursary at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he loved his time and stayed to work upon graduation. Donations can also be made to Peace Community Church in Hamilton.
