MAIDMENT, Jean Maidment
January 11, 1931 - December 26, 2025
Passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Oakville on December 26, 2025 in her 95th year. Jean was the heart of her family – loving, generous, selfless and deeply thoughtful – and will be sorely missed.
She was the dearly loved mother of Jennifer Gould, Hilary Giles (David) and Andrew Maidment (Susan Ng). She was the devoted and much-loved Nanny of the late Jason (Carol), Dana (the late David), Shannon, Robin (Dave), Tristan (Carly) and Portia (Stella) as well as Great-Nanny of Dylan, and Super-Nanny of Aiden and Sejal. Her family was her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment, and she devoted her time, care and attention to each generation.
Jean was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Sidney Douglas Maidment (1995), her parents, Phyllis and Arnold Grieveson, and her grandson Jason (2021). Jean was later the companion to the late Bill Donkin (2008) and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by the entire Donkin family.
Jean was born in Darlington, County Durham, England in 1931, before moving to London, where she met and married Sid at Kensington Temple in 1948. Jean and Sid, with their young daughter Jennifer, emigrated to Canada in 1952, where they built and nurtured a loving family, a welcoming home and a rich life.
For more than 40 years, Jean was an active and cherished member of the Bronte community. She was a talented knitter, seamstress, gardener and artist. With her artistic talents and impeccable sense of style, Jean had an intuitive understanding of balance, symmetry, and color – whether expressed in how she dressed, how she decorated her home, or in her artwork. An active member of the Oakville Arts Society, Jean was a gifted painter who studied under Tom Chatfield. Jean’s paintings remain treasured by her children and grandchildren and bring fond memories and beauty into their homes.
A faithful member of Walton Memorial United Church, she participated in many aspects of church life, including Bible study, the prayer chain, and the prayer shawl ministry – reflecting her faith and compassion. She enjoyed travel, especially in her later years, visiting friends and family.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate care team at Sunrise, with special appreciation to Analyn and Juliet for their dedication and kindness.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at Walton Memorial United Church in the Spring of 2026, followed by the interment of her ashes at St. Jude’s Cemetery, Oakville.
