PLATZ, Manfred Georg Platz Obituary
PLATZ, Manfred Georg – We are deeply saddened to announce that Manfred passed away peacefully on December 24, 2015.
Manfred was a loving husband to his wife of 61 years (Hilde Maria); and was proud father to Evelyne (John MacMillan) and Bernhard (Marguerite Platz). He will be missed by his grandchildren, Kristine and Curt MacMillan, Jeffrey and Steven Platz, step-grandchildren Patrick Laflamme and Tim Laflamme, and his great granddaughters, Hailey, Samantha and Isabella Platz, who all brought joy to his heart.
Manfred was predeceased in 2014 by his beloved brother, Wigand Platz, who died in Stoney Creek, Ontario.
Manfred was born in Breslau, Germany on February 24, 1928. In July 1953, Manfred obtained his Millwright Journeyman Master’s degree, specializing in auto and diesel mechanics and worked for four years (1950-1954) with Bosch, in Stuttgart, Germany.
Manfred and Hilde were married in Stuttgart, Germany, on February 20, 1954. They immigrated to Canada on June 7, 1954. He then pursued a successful career culminating with Stanley Works from April 1957 to June 1989, when he retired as Manager of Engineering. Manfred, in his younger years, was an avid soccer player and downhill skier.
While still in Germany, he rode various motorcycles, and enjoyed motor sports of all kinds. In his youth and young adulthood, Manfred was a talented violinist who was a member of the Bosch symphony orchestra. Manfred lived an active rich life with his wife Hilde. He enjoyed the outdoors with family camping and traveling.
After his retirement he and Hilde seriously explored all continents. Manfred enjoyed reading and discussing all matters surrounding politics, economics, philosophy, climate change, science discoveries, technology advancements and motorsports. He enjoyed lively discussions on any subject matter. Manfred was an enthusiastic photographer, documenting our family’s life with thousands of slides.
Manfred’s family will greatly miss his spirit of adventure, his intelligence and understanding of life’s awe, his love of nature, music, and art of sharing precious memories.
We will host a celebration of Manfred’s life on Wednesday, December 30th at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (at Westmount Rd), (519-743-8900).
