ZAVITZ, Marjorie Zavitz Obituary

Zavitz MarjorieZAVITZ, Marjorie – Passed away on December 23, 2015 in her 81st year.

She leaves a close immediate family with daughter Andrea and her husband Chris Gamauf of Toronto, son Kenton and his wife Suzanne Attix and grandchildren Lucy and Oscar of Salt Lake City, Utah and sisters Mary Marshall of Beaconsfield, QC, Rena Page of Ottawa and Joyce Dundas of Toronto.

Her family is very sorry and saddened to lose this wonderful sister, mother and grandmother.

Marjorie was born in Montreal to parents Erna and Leo Goldberg. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Harris G. Zavitz (2013), and her sister Joan Goldberg. Her extended family of nieces and nephews has remained close.

Marjorie and Harris met while teaching in Germany on a Canadian Air Force base in 1958. They came to Niagara Falls in 1960 where Marjorie continued to teach and Harris was Principal at several local elementary schools. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree at McMaster University. Later, Marjorie worked as a real estate agent and enjoyed many lasting relationships with new friends and clients.

She and Harris travelled the world together throughout their marriage and enjoyed the people, art, culture and food they discovered on their many adventures. Marjorie was a talented artist and enjoyed painting, pottery, ceramics and wood carving. She enjoyed her home and garden in Niagara Falls, reading, cooking and baking, and most of all spending time with family, friends and neighbours. We will all miss Marjorie’s warmth, kindness, optimism, courage, generosity and sense of humour.

A memorial and celebration of her life will take place on Sunday April 17, 2016. For more information and/or condolences, please contact Kenton/Andrea at hmzavitz@becon.org.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
