MATTHEWS, Margaret Joan Phillips Matthews

Peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Joan (nee Matthews), formerly of Burford, in her 92nd year passed to her eternal home. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred Phillips (1999), loving mother of Derick (Kim) Phillips and Cyndi (Patrick) Kunkel. Cherished Nana of Mikayla and Abby Kunkel and Reegan and Avery Phillips. Joan was the dear sister of Louise (the late Don) Harris, Joe (Margaret) Matthews, Ruth (the late Fred) Griffin and Dan (Jen) Matthews. She was the longtime partner of Robert Porteous who passed in 2023. Predeceased by her brothers Bobby, John and Ted Matthews, and sister Jacqueline Poole. Joan will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Joan will be fondly remembered for her sense of humour, generosity, her zest for life and her dedication to family. She touched the lives of many through her thirty plus year career as the manager of the Brant Teachers’ Credit Union and as an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Brant County for more than forty years. She loved her Florida travel with family and was a supportive grandmother at dance recitals, swim meets, lacrosse and hockey games.

Family and friends are welcome to the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street, London on Thursday October 2, 2025 from 12-1 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Woodland Cemetery, 493 Springbank Drive, London.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy donations in Joan’s memory may be made to your local SPCA and Humane Society.
