MAWHINNEY, Alice Margaret Mawhinney

Our beloved mom Alice passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2025, just five days shy of her 91st birthday, in the presence of her loving daughter Michelle.

Predeceased by her husband Lorne Mawhinney (November 12, 2024), parents John and Aileen Graham, and sisters Jackie and Shirley. Survived by her children Loren (Steven), John, Michelle, Janet (Jay), Anne-Marie (Pete), and David; grandchildren Graham, Megan, Jessica, Noah, Ian, Alex, and Evan; great-grandchildren Wesley and Kaia; and extended family Kim (Stacy) and Michael (Melanie).

Alice’s life was rooted in love, education, and justice. She earned her BA in Anthropology from York University in 2000, after raising six children and supporting her family in countless ways. Her deep curiosity led her to study everything from ancient civilizations to modern environmental issues.

An engaged community member and critical thinker, she participated in marches, wrote to political leaders, and maintained a lifelong habit of reading and advocating. Alice was the original Google to her children—her wisdom, perspective, and commentary a vital resource in their lives.

Alice cherished her family, frequently hosting Sunday dinners for over 40 years, and providing support to anyone who needed a home, a meal, or encouragement. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, fierce intelligence, and devoted motherhood.

Celebration of Life: Saturday, May 31st, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

Location: Morley Bedford Funeral Home, Toronto.
