MAXWELL, James Berkly Maxwell

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Berkly Maxwell, who left us peacefully on August 23, 2025, at Hospice North Hastings. He was 76.

Above all, Jim was a devoted father, “Poppy” and grandfather, “Bumpy”. He will be forever in the heart of his beloved daughter and best friend, Jenna; his adored grandsons, Maxwell and Kialan; and his son-in-law, Luis. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Margaret “Peggy”, Darlene, Janice, Beverley and their families. Jim was predeceased by his mother, Phyllis, his father, Robert and his brothers, Dean and Rocky.

Born and raised in Bancroft, Jim was a familiar face to many. He excelled at sales, from pools to cars, and worked at Price Ford for over 30 years.

His love and dedication to the community shone through starting in high school, when he ran from Maple Leaf to Bancroft in a fundraiser to build the new arena. He was a founding member and president of Bancroft’s tennis club, “The Racketeers”, served as a volunteer firefighter and was an actor in community theatre.

Jim was a proud descendant of Kijicho Manito and a member of the Algonquin Nation, He was a true outdoorsman who immensely enjoyed fishing, hunting, and berry picking. He was an avid golfer and master cribbage player.

He will be deeply missed by his many cherished, lifelong, and steadfast friends, who will always remember “Jimmy” and his “shenanigans” with a lot of laughter.

A celebration of life to honor and remember Jim will be held at the Bancroft Curling Club, 63 Newkirk Blvd, Bancroft, ON K0L 1C0 on September 13, 2025, at 11 a.m.
