MCARTHUR, Douglas McArthur
June 18, 1944 - February 15, 2026He was usually known as “The General,”
Passed away peacefully at Victoria Village in Barrie on February 15, 2026, at the age of 81.
Doug was born on June 18, 1944, at Collingwood Hospital to Ernest and Florence McArthur. He was the fourth child in the family, predeceased by his brother Harold and sister Pauline, and is lovingly remembered by his sisters Margaret and Sharon.
Doug was a proud father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his children: Keri (Jeremy), Heather (Rick), and Mark (Christina); and by his cherished grandchildren: Wesley, Jax, Araya, and Eddie; and by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doug was well known for his good stories, his love of a cold beer, and his enjoyment of driving the backroads. Many visits included a story — often one that grew just a little better with time. He enjoyed curling both as a player and as an enthusiastic fan, and he was a devoted supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Doug leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, laughter, and strong roots in the community he loved. He will be remembered for his independent spirit, his storytelling, and the many “General” moments shared with family and friends.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Everett Legion 6190 County Rd. 13 Everett on Sunday March 15, 2026 from 12-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Matthew’s House Hospice or Community Living Association for South Simcoe.
