It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Lawrence McDonagh at the age of 90 on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Born in Eyrecourt, Co. Galway, Ireland, Albert’s adventurous spirit led him through England and ultimately to Canada where he built a fulfilling life in Hamilton and Burlington.

Beloved husband to Helen Ann McLeman (née May) and devoted father to Michael, Ann, Margaret, Kathleen (deceased), and Maureen (Dan Vella). Cherished grandfather to Elise and Ewan, and loving brother to Margaret (Peig) Monahan (Charles). Predeceased by his parents Michael and Ellen, and siblings Cornelius, Ambrose, Eugene, Michael, and Mary Anne.

Albert’s entrepreneurial energy led him to a long and proud career as a Real Estate, Insurance, and Mortgage Broker. A vibrant member of the Irish Canadian Club of Hamilton and parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, he was recognized for over 40 years with the Real Estate Association of Hamilton and Burlington. His enthusiasm for learning, travel, storytelling, and “life’s simple pleasures” was contagious.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Acclaim Health, Sunrise Assisted Living, and Billings Court Manor for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street, Burlington on Wednesday, June 11th from 5–8pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday, June 12th at 10:30am. Private family interment to follow.
