MCGROGGAN, Hugh McGroggan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh McGroggan, who died on December 1, 2025, in Port Perry, Ontario, at the age of 82. He passed away following complications from pneumonia after a courageous, year-long battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Hugh was a man of boundless energy, sharp wit, and deep compassion. He was proud to be Irish and carried that vibrant spirit throughout his life. A true ultimate handyman and a skilled electrician by trade, he could fix anything and took great pride in helping others—a quality that defined his character. He loved a good laugh, and his funny nature and appreciation for a good joke, especially dirty ones, made him a joy to be around. Hugh was also a man of many passions, including his lifelong love for Irish football.

An avid reader and traveler, Hugh traveled the world, soaking up new experiences and cultures. He possessed a keen intellect, which he often showcased as a master of trivia. He cherished the simple pleasures of nature walks and was a devoted fan of true crime. Known for his captivating stories and lively conversations, he truly had the gift of the gab and shared his perspective on life. Above all, Hugh was a compassionate man who would do whatever he could to help others.

A truly beloved father, Hugh leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his children: Mark (Lisa), Sarah (Steve), Michelle (Justin); and his grandchildren: Connor, Makenna, Claire, Molly, Matilda, and Sienna.

Hugh was preceded in death by his cherished children, Hughie and June.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered for his incredible spirit, generosity, and devotion to his family.

Hugh will be interred beside his beloved son, Hugh Thomas, at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Whitby.
