Devoted father of Kirsty Taddeo (Fred) and Moira McKenzie (Mark McCabe) and loving stepfather of Beverley Drouillard (Kevin), Robert Edwards (Natalie), Sandra Metel (Omer), Katherine Dawick (Jamie) and Daniel Edwards (Keely). Proud Grandpa of Dustin, Jordan, Bridget, Ethan, Aydin, Claire, Joshua, Luke, Jake, Jessica and Alice, and great-Grandpa of Luke, Connor and Faith. Predeceased by his parents and his first wife Wilma Blair (1981). Alistair was born in Glasgow Scotland on 23 January 1942 to Alexander McKenzie and Williamina Murdoch. He was trained as an electrical draftsman and worked in the shipbuilding industry in Glasgow until 1969 when he was recruited by Ontario Hydro and immigrated to Canada. He continued his career at OPG until his retirement in 2001. Known as Mr. Fix-it to his grandchildren, there wasn’t a household appliance or a child’s toy he couldn’t repair. He was a longtime member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a board member and tireless worker for many years of the Civitan Club of Oakville. In spite of ongoing health issues over the past ten years, Alistair met each challenge with Scottish stoicism. The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by doctors, nurses and PSWs over the last years, with a particular heartfelt thank you for the dedication of Dr. Kristiana Martiniuk and Dr. Lynne Benjamin and the palliative care team from Acclaim Health.Visitation will be held 7 – 9 pm Tuesday December 16th at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home 64 Lakeshore Rd. W., Oakville.
