MCKILLOP, Doug McKillop
December 13, 1943 - November 21, 2025
He was born December 13, 1943, in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, and grew up on the wide-open prairies he never stopped loving. After studies in Saskatoon and at the University of Alberta, he graduated as a dentist in 1970. That same year he moved to Port Alberni, where he established his dental practice alongside Rollie Nystrom and Ken Sander. For over two decades he cared for the smiles of the community until he retired in his early fifties, trading the drill for a fishing rod and a beach chair.
Doug lived a big, happy life. He loved fishing down the Canal, sitting in the Mexican sun with a cold drink in hand, playing ball, and most of all, making friends wherever he went. Light-hearted and armed with a quick sense of humour, he could brighten any room and turn strangers into friends in minutes.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Donald and Henrietta (Horsburgh) McKillop, his stepfather Arthur Tollifson, his sister Kathy, and his beloved second wife Vicky Collinge, who passed away on Valentine’s Day 2023. In a tender twist of fate, Doug left this world on what would have been Vicky’s birthday.
He is survived by his children Jeff McKillop and Tasha Sutton; his former wife Barb McKillop, who lovingly nursed him through his final months; Vicky’s children Kim and Lon Collinge, whom he loved dearly; and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
There will be no formal funeral service at this time. Doug loved parties, so his family will honour him by going ahead with the big Christmas dinner he had already planned and was looking forward to—a private family gathering filled with the stories and laughter he cherished.
Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared with the family on Doug’s tribute page at Chapel of Memories (chapelofmemories.ca).
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. White and the compassionate staff at West Coast General Hospital for their care and kindness.
Doug will be deeply missed, warmly remembered, and forever loved.
