MCLEOD, Robert “Bob” McLeod

October 8, 1945 - August 11, 2025
MCLEOD, Robert “Bob” McLeod

Bob passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by the loving warmth of his family on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the age of 79.  Loved and missed by his wife Joan (nee Loukides) and children Greg (Julianne Labelle), Chris (Greg Soucie), and Colleen (Glen Carl). Incredibly proud grandfather to Owen, Atticus, Ryleigh, Griffin, and Layla.

Born in Ottawa and with an exceptional gift for working with numbers, Bob pursued post-secondary education in his mid-teens, ultimately earning his chartered accountant designation amongst other accomplishments. His early career was spent in the GTA, advising clients at Arthur Anderson, and lecturing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants. His sharp intellect and instinct when it came to managing finances followed him as he ventured to northern Ontario – or the “other side of the roadmap” as he used to joke – where he offered invaluable advice and support to several notable business families. He was best known for his tremendous contributions to building the Grant Forest Products empire and the great benefits to the community that followed its success.  He called Haileybury home for over 40 years.

True to his loving nature and his deep value for family, he managed to stay close to those he loved, distance be damned.  Those who knew Bob’s love felt it in immeasurable ways, but his fierce desire to protect and provide was a shared gift felt by those whom he held dear.  He lived by the “Golden Rule”, and his generosity and kindness followed him everywhere he went, touching those who had the privilege of knowing him in unique ways.

Bob would have been happy spending eternity with a rod and reel in hand, and family and friends at his side, at the cottage he built on Sandy Island, Lake Nipissing – and with just enough cell reception to keep an eye on his investments, which he continued to actively manage into his final days.  His spirit and legacy are felt in all the places he loved to spend his time.

Honouring Bob’s wishes, he will be cremated, with a celebration of life being held at a later date.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A special thank you goes out from the family to Bob’s palliative care team in Port Perry, including the wonderful doctors and staff at Lakeridge Health, as well as his home care nurse, Isaac, and PSW, Bill, whose sensitive and supportive care was felt deeply by both Bob and the family in his final moments.
