Dave was a farmer whose love for the land was demonstrated on a daily basis. He ran a mixed farming operation with a focus on dairy that brought plenty of joy and contentment at the end of the day. Dave’s family, though, was his greatest harvest. Dave looked forward to the winters when he would take his team of horses to various wood lots, including Algonquin Park for logging operations. He had many teams of horses over the years (Percheron always being his favorite), that he also entered in horse drawing competitions, where he was often named “best teamster”. Another highlight for Dave was horse drawn sleigh rides at the Douglas winter carnival. He truly loved his horses. He also drove cream truck, a mail delivery route but especially a school bus for many years, safely carrying generations of children, always dependable and watchful. In his leisure hours, Dave never turned down the opportunity for a good game of euchre.
