Forever in Our Hearts Rosa Moniz Melo
With heavy hearts we announce Rosa’s passing at St. Peter’s Hospital on September 20, 2025 in her 81st year. Â Beloved wife of Joao Luis for 60 years. Loving mother of Jose Augusto (Chris), Glen (Lisa), Nelson (Isabel), Sylvia (John Araujo) and Steve. Â Adoring grandmother to Jesse, Deanna (Ryan), Alexis, Andrew, Gavin, Avery, Madison and Ace. Â Predeceased by her parents Joao Moniz de Melo and Maria De Jesus Pereira. Â Loving sister of Lola (Jose) Medeiros, Zelia (Edmundo) Borges, Jose (Concecao), Augusto (Maria Urania), Jorge (Ann), Joao Antonio, Maria Clarkson, Maria Ze (Jose) Silveira, Maria Dos Angos (Jose-Henrique) Gaspar. Â Will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rosa was a respected member of the Portuguese community including Vasco Dagama, and Sao Miguel Arcanjo. Â She was truly an angel on earth, a woman whose heart was as pure as her intentions, and whose kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. Â Known for her unwavering love, gentle spirit, and deep devotion to her family and faith, she was the heart of every gathering, the calm in every storm, and the warmth in every room.
Her love for cooking brought people together, not just for the meals she prepared with care, but for the love she served with every dish. Â A true peacemaker, she was always the first to extend grace, to offer a helping hand, or to place someone else’s needs above her own. Â Her selflessness knew no bounds.
Family was everything to her. Â She built her life around those she loved, and in return, she was adored beyond measure. Â She wasn’t just loved, she was cherished. Â The best mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ask for. Â To know her was to love her and her memory will continue to inspire and guide us always.
A special and heartfelt thank you to the compassionate nurses, especially Gary and Ashlee, her granddaughter Alexis, and the caregivers at St. Peter’s 3rd West Ward.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donation to Rosa’s favourite charity, the Hamilton Children’s Hospital Fund.
Visitation will be held at Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton Street East, on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Â A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 10 a.m. Â Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
