MELTON, Doug Melton
March 31, 1949 - July 7, 2025
Melton – Doug always wanted his obituary headline to read: “Doug died…..it’s time for a beer and a bun at the Legion.” It’s been a family joke for many years. So now Doug, we are doing it your way.
Doug passed away on July 7, 2025 at the age of 76 unexpectedly while on a trip with his family in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. Doug was born on March 31, 1949 to Lorne and Maxine Melton in Petrolia. He married the love of his life Mary (Roberts) on Nov 10, 1972 and had two children Brett Douglas and Erin Michelle.
Doug is survived by his wife Mary, children Brett (Allison), Erin (Houston) Gojmerac, grandchildren Michaela and Lucas Gojmerac, mother Maxine Hoven, brother Chuck (Cindy) and sister Patti (Stu) Boynton, brother-in-law of Suzanne Roberts, Pat (John) Sidorko, Barb (Bob) Cunningham, Joan (Bob) Pratt, David (Elvie) Roberts, Cathy Lewis, Doug (Janet) Roberts, Fiordisa Roberts, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Lorne Melton, stepfather Archie Hoven, in-laws Jack and Rosemary Roberts, brothers-in-law Dave Lewis, Don Roberts, and Bill Roberts. Doug’s true love in life was spending time with his grandchildren Lucas and Michaela. He cherished their hugs, loved watching Lucas play sports, and listening to their many stories.
Doug was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, Michigan Wolverines and of course the Mooretown Flags where he was an active member of the executive from 1997 to present time. He often could be found teeing off early at the St. Clair Parkway Golf Course where he met many good friends.
After retirement from Shell Canada (1969–2004), Doug and Mary spent many winters traveling to Arizona and Florida. As per Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at the Corunna Legion on Tuesday, August 12 from 1 to 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 447, Corunna, ON N0N 1G0 or Operation Christmas Tree in Corunna. E-transfer donations can be sent to operationchristmastree@outlook.com. Please put your mailing address in the comment section to receive your receipt.
Doug was not a shirt and tie kinda guy — you probably only saw him in casual or golf clothes. If you can wait, please come dressed casually… “think” favorite sports team, golf, jeans and t-shirts. Doug would love it.
