MERKER, Melvyn  –  It is with profound sadness and fond memories that the family of Melvyn Merker announces his passing on April 28, 2023, in his 82nd year.

Mel was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend.

He liked nothing better than hosting gatherings of family, friends and coworkers.

These events were characterized with lots of storytelling, laughter and “over the top” amounts of delicious food and desserts. Mel was a successful businessman; he was hard working and shared his successes generously with others. He instilled in his family and grandchildren the need for a strong work ethic and the importance of family.

His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, whom he always supported and loved unconditionally. Mel is survived by his daughter, Stacey (Dave) MacDonald; son, Jeff (Jennifer) Merker; and his grandchildren, Meghan (Jordan) Brugess, Sam MacDonald (Brandon), Cole and Skylar.

Mel was predeceased by his wife, Karen (née Slinn); his parents, Sam and Betty Merker; and his mother-in-law, Katherine Slinn (née Remion). Many cousins and friends are also left to mourn Mel’s passing.

Visitation will be held at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge St., Richmond Hill, on Wednesday May 3, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior.
