MENDONCA , Jovit Mendonça

After a prolonged farewell, it is with heavy but loving hearts and cherished memories that the family of Jovit Mendonça announce his passing on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the age of 90 years, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinsonism and Vascular Dementia.

Born in Bombay, India, on February 15, 1935, Jovit was the dearly loved son of John and Anne Mendonça (deceased), and youngest sibling to Eva, Charles, and Albert (all deceased).

Beloved husband of Margaret (née Fernandes) of London, ON, for 62 years. Proud and loving father of Jeremy (Zaiba Mian) and Nicola (John Glatt), and cherished grandfather of Erica and Jillian (Jeffrey Henderson).

He was adored by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, in Canada and abroad. A proud immigrant, Jovit built a meaningful life in Canada, transitioning from banking in India to a successful and impactful career in social services and addiction treatment in Ontario, retiring as Program Director at Westover Treatment Centre in 2000.

A man of deep faith, compassion, and intellect, Jovit found joy in music, literature, sketching, poetry, travel, and most of all, family. His devotion to faith and helping others defined his life.

Cremation has taken place. The Order of Christian Funerals will be held at St. Michael’s Parish Church, 511 Cheapside Street, London, Ontario, on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow, with private family committal to take place afterwards.
