MENICAN, Ann Menican
December 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ann Elizabeth Menican on December 24, 2025, after an unexpected battle with brain cancer. Ann maintained her sense of humour and her beautiful spirit until the very last moment. Predeceased by her parents, Big Nick Menican and Betty Menican (nee Mantle), and her brother, Nicky Menican, Ann is profoundly missed by her life partner, Douglas Hayes, who was with her everyday of her illness, supporting and advocating for her. Loving stepmother to Nick (Sam), Ben, Leigh, Laura (Craig) and Thomas. Beloved and doting grandmother of Jackson, Cooper and Parker, each of whom always brought a smile and an eye twinkle to Ann’s face. Special aunt to Addy and Gabe. Cousin and friend to Kelly Gravelle and her family (Jason and Georgia), and Robin, Cindy and Ryan Rubic.
Ann loved music, travelling and spending time with her friends. Growing up with Janet (Tim) in the Donovan, travelling with Nada (Mike,) and cocktails at the camp with Maillis and Maire. Ann was extremely close with her parents, travelling around Europe in her teens and yearly pilgrimages to Arizona with her father, and shopping, which she loved, lunching and trips to Toronto and Las Vegas for shopping (of course) and concerts with her mother.
Special thank you to Brenda (Gary) for visiting Ann everyday at the hospital and then at Maison McCulloch. You helped bring that classic Ann smile to her face during a difficult time.
Ann was an incredible and loving person, an inimitable host and a devotee of Elvis and Three Dog Night. Ann reveled in hosting friends and family at the camp, looking for the next great snack, refining her martini recipe and enjoying the sun and the heat out on the pontoon boat. Ann’s already impressive collection of humorous birthday and Christmas cards grew exponentially over this year, much to her
absolute delight.
Thank you Nick and Sam for your unwavering support. Ann appreciated you. Thank you as well to the amazing staff at Maison McCulloch Hospice. We are so grateful for your empathy and professionalism.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date. Please consider donations in Ann’s honour to Maison McCulloch Hospice or the SickKids Foundation.
