MEYERS, Helen Elizabeth (Coxwell) Meyers – Obituary

MEYERS, Helen Elizabeth (Coxwell) – Peacefully at her residence at Island Park in Campbellford in her 101st year.

Born on August 9, 1915 above the Campbellford Firehall, daughter of the late Hylton and Violet (Plummer) Coxwell.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Don (1913-1995) on Thanksgiving Sunday 1995, with whom she shared almost 60 years of love and family life.

Dearest mother to Gaele ( Keith Johnstone) of Hastings, Larry (Mireille) of Campbellford, Evan (Mary Ellen) of Havelock and Eric (Ann Oliphant) of Hastings. Beloved grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 9.

Remembered with love by Margo Kreh, Suzanne Ruttan, Beverly (Hood) Meyers, the Coxwell and extended families.

Helen was also predeceased by her sister Mary Bythell and her brother John Coxwell.

Helen devoted her life to her family and her community. She was a calming source of support to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren – all of whom often needed calming.

She was a dedicated volunteer, active member and strong supporter of many groups in the Campbellford community, such as the St John’s United Church, I.O.D.E., Eastern Star and Meals on Wheels.

She loved playing bridge: in earlier years partnered with her husband Don and later with her good friend Marion Weaver. They played together in at least 2 clubs for many years, leading players in the Marathon Bridge until a few years ago.

She enjoyed a full and healthy life, celebrating her 100th birthday at the family cottage with all her family on a beautiful summer day.
She died in her sleep, looking forward to joining her beloved Don and family and friends gone before her.

Helen enjoyed her last few years at Island Park Retirement Residence. The family are very appreciative of the care and support that she received from her friends there, the staff and the health care workers who were there for her in her time of need.

The family will receive friends at the Weaver Family Funeral Home – Campbellford Chapel, 77 Second Street, Campbellford on Friday ,October 16th from 2 PM until 4 PM. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

If desired, memorial donations to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
