MIKITA, Michael Joseph Mikita

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Joseph Mikita on May 5, 2025, at the age of 77, following a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Belleville, Ontario and raised in Temiskaming, QC, Mike lived a life full of grit, heart, and humour. From a young age, he displayed a spirited personality that shone through in every chapter of his life.

Mike moved to St. Marys, Ontario at age 15 to play goalie for the Lincolns (1964–1968), where he was billeted by the Edye family. It was during this time he met Donna, his future wife, with whom he built a vibrant life and raised three children: Tracey, Shane, and Robin.

A hard worker through and through, Mike thrived as a welder, carpenter, and later as a truck driver. He was known for his hearty laugh, generosity, and love of the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, or fixing anything he could get his hands on, Mike relished life’s simple pleasures.

Mike leaves behind his loving wife Donna; children Tracey (Mark), Shane (Jenny), Robin (Charlie); sister Eileen (Don and son Eric); and cherished grandchildren Zach, Connor, Noah, Riley, Elliot, Jillian, and Lauren.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Marys Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be held at Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. S., St. Marys, Ontario on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. A private family service will follow at a later date.

Donations in Mike’s memory may be made to The Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre or Operation Smile Canada.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home.
