MILE , Gabor Mile
July 24, 1931 - August 13, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gabor Mile, lovingly known as “Mile the Tailor.” Born in Hungary in 1931, Gabe came to Canada in the 1950s and created a strong foundation in Hamilton. For over 50 years, he poured his heart into every stitch at his downtown shop. A proud member of St. Stephen’s Hungarian Parish, Sundays often meant church, a stop at Denninger’s, and checking in on his business.
In the Blakely neighborhood, he was the friendly neighbor sweeping the sidewalk, tending cucumbers that always seemed to climb up the spruce trees, and offering his bus seat with a smile; wearing his houndstooth print fedora. Gabe shared 62 years of love with his wife, Magda, the heart of his life. He will be deeply missed by his Gabe Jr. (Nancy), daughter Marta, granddaughter Megan (Devyn) and family in Europe. In later years, his PSWs became dear friends.
Please join us to celebrate the beautiful life of Gabor Mile at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 2 – 5 pm. Cremation will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family. www.smithsfh.com
