Even at 100, Velma rocked it! She always made sure to look her best every day. Velma Marjorie (Grey, Macartney) Minaker passed away peacefully on the morning of February 25, 2025, with her dear friend and caregiver Barbara Jennings by her side. The family is forever grateful to Barbara for her years of loving care and companionship.

Velma was deeply loved, especially by her family. She leaves behind her sons Gerry (Mary Klein) and Rick (Darlene), and three cherished grandchildren: Rob (Renee Sabourin), Shannon (Jack Soares), and Jaime (Ryan Hanna). She was incredibly proud of her two great-grandsons, Joaquim and Mateo Soares. Velma was predeceased by her second husband, Roger Minaker.

Darlene fondly remembers Velma as not just a mother-in-law but a dear friend and mother figure. Velma was a great listener, caring, and always full of wisdom. As the years passed, she lost many friends but gained just as many, a testament to her warm and engaging personality. With her beautiful smile, wit, and humor, people were naturally drawn to her.

The family is grateful to Dr. Lily and the Bluewater Health Palliative team, who gave Velma two extra precious years. They also extend their thanks to the staff at Vision Huron, where she was loved and well cared for. Velma wished to pass peacefully in her sleep, and that wish was granted.

We love you, Mom, Nanny, Val. You will forever be in our hearts, and we will watch for you in that beautiful red cardinal.

Cremation has taken place, and interment at Lakeview Cemetery will be held at a later date.
