MITCHELL, George William Mitchell

Passed away peacefully following brief health challenges with his heart, supported by his family on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa.

Beloved husband of Ruth Mitchell for 61 wonderful years. Proud father of Cindy Mitchell and her husband Mike Benoit. Cherished brother of Claire and Bob Mallette, and Bob and Linda Mitchell. Predeceased by his siblings June (Jack) Cochrane, James, Margaret, and Tom. Dear brother-in-law of Betty and Shar.

George will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends—especially their dear and cherished friends Tara, Arthur, and family.

A proud retiree of General Motors, George dedicated 40 years of service in Quality Control and retired as a Team Leader in Quality Control. He was a committed union member. George had a deep love for the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and, in his younger years, cycling with friends up to and around Port Perry. An avid five-pin bowler, George also volunteered with the CNIB, helping individuals with limited vision enjoy the sport he loved.

Family meant everything to George. He and Ruth treasured time spent together traveling, camping, and exploring the world through their many trips to Europe and cruises abroad.

A longtime member of St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church, George’s faith and kindness were evident in all he did.

The Mitchell family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the team at Lakeridge Heights Retirement Residence for their compassion and care, as well as to Lakeridge Health Oshawa – Emergency Department, ACU Unit, and the Durham Regional Paramedics Team.
