MITRES, Ioannis Mitres

Born August 16, 1940 in Emborion, Greece. John passed away with courage at the age of 85, on Wednesday December 3, 2025 at the Hamilton General Hospital after a brief stay.

Son to Petro and Fani (born – Kukovis). John was father to sons Peter and Michael.

John came to Canada in the 1960’s. He worked as a mechanic’s assistant and in autobody repairs. Later he worked on general maintenance at the Texas Country Restaurant. He had a real talent for fixing things.

Intelligent, self-reliant, and resilient, he managed to stay independent to the end. He had a good sense of humour and made friends in his hometown of Waterdown. He always kept in regular contact with his closest family and friends both here and in Greece. John appreciated his personal care support caregivers that saw him weekly. John’s infectious laugh and kindness will be missed.

Visitation will be held at St. Demetrios Church, Hamilton on Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 10:00 am, until the time of Funeral Prayers at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Garden Lane Cemetery.
