MONGER, Larry Taylor Monger
October 8, 1941 - February 26, 2026
It is with all the feels we share that Larry Taylor Monger passed away at sunrise on February 26, 2026 leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and more memories than we can count.
Larry was born October 8, 1941 in London Ontario. He was the kind of man who prioritized his family above all . He believed in love, especially his unwavering love for his wife of 33 years this spring. Larry and Sherry are an inspiring couple and he prioritized her well-being, always.
As a proud Dad and Grandpa he poured himself into activities to share and support for what everyone was up to in his retirement. He and Sherry always prioritized showing up and nothing mattered more. The lessons he taught — about integrity, kindness and love—will stay with us forever.
The grandkids kept him busy growing up with dance, swimming, music recitals, baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, science camps, museums and libraries. They never passed up an opportunity to be a part of the growth. Family vacations were beautiful bonding time whether it was cottage time, Mackies at the beach, British Columbia, or Tucson Arizona, he loved being with his family and seeing new places.
Larry believed in hard work and education. He combined these as a career educator for The Thames Valley School Board where he was a gifted progressive leader of faculty and students in many schools in London, Ontario.
He spent 19 years working as a valued contributor to a cherished charity for him, The St. Leonard Society, helping with the Justice Circle which is a community based voluntary dialogue process rooted in Indigenous traditions designed to address harm, conflict or crime by gathering victims, offenders, support people and community members to focus on repairing harm, fostering accountability and healing relationships rather than merely punishing the offender.
Larry was an important fraternity member – past president, officer and Master Mason of St. John’s Lodge 209A, AF & AM, where he shared his brotherly love, charity, truths, and core values with many like-minded men in the community.
He loved his hobbies too: whether it was wood working, golf, sailing, golf, playing in band, golf or singing. (he kinda loved golf and was very good at it)
Above all he was known for his car knowledge and his biannual car shopping. He looooved looking at cars and going to car shows. That man could identify every car on the road.
His big extended family has many pets; dogs and cats, and they all left a mark on him. He adored his family time and sharing meals with everyone created great opportunities for telling stories and catching up around the kitchen table. He always shared with heart.
Larry is survived by his wife Sherry; his son J. Scott and his wife Kathryn Monger, grandchildren Tristan and Maya; his son Jeff and Cindy Monger and grandchildren Mollie and Ethan; his bonus son Rob and his wife Carrie, grandchildren Noah, Luke and Colin; his bonus daughter Kristi and her husband Martin, grandchildren Taya and Quynn; his brother Paul and wife Nancy, niece Sue (Scott) Jury, niece Cindy (Peter) Cripps and their children Corbin and Ainsley. He was predeceased by his Dad John Monger, his Mom Elsie Varnham and stepdad Harold Varnham.
We’ll miss his hugs, his steady presence, his smirks, his unbelievable vocabulary, and boundless sharing spirit but we’re grateful for every moment we had with him. His story lives on in all of us and we will all continue to try to make him proud. He showed us how to live well and love fully.
Special thanks to family, friends and caregivers for your support over the past two years.
