MOON, Derek John Moon
January 8, 1950 - July 23, 2025
Died on Thursday, July 23rd, but not before creating a legacy of joy and humour. He was born on January 8th, 1950 in London, England and grew up in Cornwall, where he was often seen riding a bicycle, without tires, down narrow roads or jumping farm fences to avoid livestock.
Derek was known for his generous spirit and positive outlook on life. He could fix almost anything and you would hear him whistle while he made cups of tea for the family, or tackled projects in his workshop. He was a devoted husband, Dad, and Granddad who made a point of being present and involved. He enjoyed watching The Argos and The Blue Jays play and was rarely seen without a ballcap on his head. Derek couldn’t sneak up on anyone – the sound of spare change jingling against random nuts and bolts in his pocket would announce his approach.
Derek lived with dignity and grace, facing his many health challenges with good humour and resilience. Derek is survived by his one true love and wife of 53 years Gabrielle (née Czernecki), his daughters Jennifer Moon and Heather Hook, their husbands Christian Fransky and Paul Hook, and grandchildren, Benjamin Fransky, Megan Hook, and Madelyn Hook. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Frederick Moon.
A celebration of “The Derek’s” life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, located at 1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston, Ontario, on Saturday, September 20th from 1:00-3:00 pm.
