MORRIS, William “Norman” Morris
July 13, 1929 - December 15, 2025
He was born on July 13, 1929, to Vaughn and Isabella Morris in Kipling, SK, the middle of three children. In a moment, he passed from life to life eternal into the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 15, 2025, at the age of 96.
Norman was predeceased by his mother, Isabella; his father, Vaughan; his brother, Roy; and his beloved wife, Shirley. Norman is survived by his sister, Shirley McKellar; his six children: Sharon Cummins, Ruth Friesen, Brenda (Jerry) Hilderman, Norma (Rev. William) Hills, Stan (Val) Morris, and Steve (Barb) Morris; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
As the son of a railroader, living through the depression years, Norman moved frequently during his childhood. The frugality learned in those years stayed with him as he carefully managed his resources throughout life. He came to know Jesus as his personal Savior on December 17, 1949, and heeded the calling on his life to minister and boldly share the good news of the Gospel.
Following high school graduation, Norman attended Western Canadian Bible Institute in Regina, SK from 1950-1954. During this time Norman met the love of his life, Shirley Irene Allen, and following their graduation they married in August 1954. Norman had a heart for people and recalled names amazingly decades later. He was gifted in his care and compassion for the lost and hurting in the communities he faithfully served with the Christian and Missionary Alliance across British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. He spoke fondly of each place he ministered, knowing his greatest gifts and favourite years were those in pastoral care, one-on-one visitation, discipleship, and ministry to church elders. Norman and Shirley were prayer warriors throughout their marriage and ministry, praying for missionaries, pastors, friends and each family member by name on a daily basis. The family is so thankful to know with certainty that all is well with his soul as he entered heaven’s gates.
Following retirement, Norman and Shirley moved to West Kelowna, BC, in 1995. During retirement, he enjoyed a number of interests. Norman was athletic and enjoyed playing golf with his two sons, and he pushed the sports envelope by waterskiing into his 70s! He and Shirley faithfully delivered “The Daily Courier” newspaper to over one hundred homes in their community for many years. Norman was a diligent student in learning his family roots. His interest and pride of his heritage led him to over a decade researching and documenting nine family tree connections; invaluable legacies for generations to come. Norman was an avid reader and devoted to studying the Bible, cherishing his quiet time with the Lord until his last day.
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love…As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children…Bless the LORD, O my soul!” – Psalm 103: 8, 15-17, 22 –
The family extends their deep gratitude to the care staff at the Dorchester Retirement Residence, Village at Mill Creek Residence and The Vineyards Residence. The family also extends gratitude to Dr Richard van der Ross, Dr David Kim and Dr Ronald Schriemer.
